Rant on Dating Advice Books
Today I was thinking about the millions of books there are out there that basically teach people how to find a mate. I think they’re dumb. My parents 37th anniversary is later this month, they did not need a book. Before books were written, people still managed to find mates but it’s a really huge industry. I think our generation just want the shortcut for everything. We never want to put in the real work. We always want someone to outline the “easy” way for everything we do rather than going out there and getting our hands dirty and doing the necessary work. For some situations this might be acceptable, but I don’t think it is when it comes to relationships. No one can tell you how to be yourself better than you. No one can understand your potential mate better than themselves and no book can guarantee success with that potential partner. No ten step program will ensure that you’ll have a lifelong relationship with someone. Now I don’t have a problem with those who use the advice sparingly, but people who hold on to these books like their bible rather than genuinely putting themselves out there need help. People need to stop being scared of not finding a lifelong mate without molding themselves into the some fake perfect little storybook person.
